KEY ID FEATURES
- Found growing in both mixed woods and coniferous forests.
- Light brown, tan or orche cap with a creamy to whitish stipe.
- Cap often has a thin layer or "sheet" of fine whitish fibers (universal veil remnants), particularly when young.
- Has a thick or membraneous veil or "ring", an uncommon feature with Cortinarius.
- Member of the Cortinarius subgenus Rozites.
