KEY ID FEATURES
- Medium-sized, fleshy, terrestrial fruitbodies. Will grow in groups or "troops".
- Overall creamy-yellow color.
- Injured flesh exudes a white latex or "milk" that stains purple-to-violet.
- Fragile or brittle flesh common to members of Lactarius & Russula. Stipe hollow, will snap like chalk when fresh.
- Acrid tasting. May be subtle.

- NOTES: Cap 32-100 mm across, convex, becoming uplifted with sunken disc, margin in-rolled, creamy yellow in color. Gills creamy with a pinkish cast. Latex white, staining tissue violet, fading to orangish. Stipe 25-33 mm long, 9-24 mm wide. Taste slowly, slightly bitter-acrid. No odor. Flesh creamy, stipe hollow. On the ground under cottonwood.
