KEY ID FEATURES
- Small-to-large, gilled terrestrial fruitbodies found growing with spruce and hemlock.
- Caps with "bearded" margins (edges). More pronounced when young.
- Fragile or brittle flesh common to members of Lactarius & Russula.
- Injured flesh exudes a watery-white latex, staining tissue light violet.
- Flesh whitish to creamy. Stipe hollow and snaps cleanly when fresh.
- Taste mild. No distinct odor.
