KEY ID FEATURES
- Growing with conifers, Boletus edulis often in vicinity.
- Medium-to-large fruitbodies with the occasional massive capped specimen.
- Cap brilliant red-to-muted red, reddish-orange, somtimes yellow at the perimeter. Rain can really wash out the color. Margin striate.
- White-to-yellowish "warts" (universal veil remnants) frequently present on cap.
- Gills white-to-creamy, adnexed-to-free.
- Stem often with partial veil remnants (skirt). Bulbous "cup" or vulva at stem base (normally undeground).
- Whitish flesh often with yellow highlights.
